Developing Policies to Encourage Small-Scale Forestry
The objective of the symposium was to examine the issues associated with developing policies to encourage small-scale forestry. These policy measures include forestry assistance schemes, development of decision support systems, research support for key issues, joint venture arrangements, removal of market impediments and tax incentives. Areas of interest and topics of presentations included: Assessment of policy initiatives at a local, regional, national or international level; research which has implications for the development of better policies; future directions for policy development; factors which influence the effectiveness of policy measures; the role of financial and economic information in developing policies; assessment of current policy measures associated with community and social forestry programs; and impediments to small-scale forestry.
